Winona Ryder attends the premiere of ‘The Iceman’ during the 69th Venice Film Festival in a Dolce&Gabbana dress paired with Christian Louboutin shoes and Lanvin earrings.

    It still amuses me that she was cast as Spock’s mother! She looks about 5 minutes older than she did in Heathers. But nothing about the dress, hair or makeup is good.

    The earrings are fantastic, the rest of the dress is pretty good, not great. A different clutch and expression (stop being petrified!!) would make it better.

       Nope, that was my first thought when I saw the small photo.  Actually my first thought was, Wow, Tina Fey has gotten way too thin, and what has she had done to her face?  When I just looked now & saw that it was really Winona, I couldn’t believe it.  I keep thinking of her in “The Age of Innocence”–one of my favorite movies.  Not much innocence about this look for her.  She’s taut, tense, and teeny.

    She’s not my favorite to begin with, but she looks disturbingly gaunt and why does she have a death grip on that clutch?

    What on earth is going on with that eye make up? It makes her eyes look so unnaturally far apart you could drive a truck between them (which is what I expect of bad fake boobs, not of bad eye make up!)

    There was another starlet who had a wide-eyed look on the red carpet and, like here, I think it’s due to trying to keep your eyes open when the flash bulbs are going off. But on top of that, Winona just looks PETRIFIED. Or at the very least, she’s giving off severe anxiety waves. Look at the tension in her neck. And I don’t know why she’s so nervous — she looks great, to me. Maybe the hair is a little severe and the dress is nothing to write home about, but the whole look is quite pretty and tasteful.

    Something weird is going on with the eyes here. hoping it’s just bad make-up and not a botched eye lift because that would be ridiculous. Dress is OK, earrings are nice. A bling-y or colored purse would have made the whole look brighter.

         I totally understand the comment and I don’t mean to be humorless – so I’m painting myself into a real corner here – but for reasons I can’t even ID to myself, I wish people would stop referencing the Saks thing.  It was 10 years ago, and she was ragingly addicted to pills, went to court, and completed her service.  She seems so messed up now, and I’m a dumb sap but I hate to think that this will be the sum total of her life and on her gravestone, you know?

    In the thumbnail, I thought it was perfect.  When I clicked, I was amazed  by how young she looks–and how ridiculous as foodcatAlicia says to put her in mom roles.  But she is the example of how cruel Hollywood is.  I like the dress but it kind of feels like what she wore in her heyday. Still works but not as great as it was.

    An okay, but not remarkable look.  She gets a B+ for the dress.  However, the expression on her face is that of a deer staring into headlights.  She looks freaked out about something.  I hope it was just the camera angle, or an off moment for her.

    I like the dress, think it fits her beautifully. Can’t quite see the hair to make a judgement, but would like different accessories to punch it up a bit.

    I saw her in person a few weeks ago and she looked 27.  She’s clearly had something done around the eye area, and it’s altered her appearance a bit, but it’s still excellent work.

    She looks drawn and anxious.  My girl needs to put on 10 lbs and calm the hell down.
    The dress and earrings are lovely, she could’ve used a more jazzy clutch, but I’m more concerned about how tense she looks. 
    I hope she’s good in this movie ’cause when she’s good, she’s very, very good.

    I love Winona, but I don’t see her dress or really anything in this photo.  My reaction was “Egad!” to her severe appearance.  She looks so angular, lined, gaunt, harsh…ick.  Her facial expression isn’t helping.  Dress?  What dress?

    This doesn’t even look like Winona. I thought it was Tina Fey at first. I can’t figure out how she looks not like herself, but she doesn’t.

      The white highlights on the inner side of the eyelids make her eyes look bizarre. Her brows have also headed south, as they start to do with age. Also, her face has become gaunt which makes her eyes look even bigger than usual. She’s always been thin, but her face was still soft. Not sure what’s going on with her boobs – minimizer bra? She never looked that small-chested.

      Anyway, she’ll always be beautiful but wow, here she looks like she’s in pain, terrified, anxious or some combination of all three. I hope that whatever was wrong, she’s okay now or getting there.

    I think she looks lovelier now that ever.  Some people age well and I think she does.  Look at those cheek bones and eyes!  Beautiful. Period.

    She looks lovely. I don’t think of her as someone who is an adventurous dresser so this is fine. The eye make up seems to have been done with a distance view in mind.

       Yes. I thought the first and last shots were lovely – if you squint, you can even get a little Audrey Hepburn vibe in the last shot. But the close-ups with the eye makeup were startling and upsetting.

    I think she looks good. Let’s face it, this is the best she’s looked in a while. There may not be anything new or groundbreaking about this outfit, but I will say it’s unbelievable how young she still looks!!!

    I think she looks nice, and some of the body-snarking in the comments are uncalled for. She still looks the same as she did 20 years ago, which is kind of crazy. She’s not as soft faced as she used to be but that’s to be expected considering that she’s 40, not 20. The same thing happens to a lot of thin ladies, look at Jane Birkin or Zadie Smith. The dress isn’t overtly exciting, but as many others have said, she definitely has a Hepburnesque elegance in these shots. Probably should have picked a different clutch, though.

    I don’t know one way or the other, but her nose looks suspiciously nose job “perfect”, in a way it didn’t back in the day. :(
