Jeremy Renner Covers Empire Magazine

Jeremy Renner covers the latest issue of Empire Magazine photographed by Sarah Dunn.

On taking over the Bourne franchise: “That’s a huge responsibility. I had to think about what that would mean for my family, my friends, my personal life. It shifts all those relationships in different ways. We can’t just go have a cup of coffee somewhere. So it affects what they’re doing and I had to consider that.”

On how his new lead character, Aaron Cross: “He’s coming from a completely different background to Jason. He knows exactly who he is; he signed up to this … He wants to be part of a team. I can tell you he was in the military then he joined this program. He’s a person who wants to be part of something. He had nothing going on as a civilian so he became part of this military organisation. He just wants to belong and have a sense of purpose. But then it’s taken away.”

How MANLY, with ropes and guns and whatnot…

    But I can’t say it’s not hot.

However, I can say “hey look, it’s Malcom Reynolds!”

    • http://twitter.com/kerrymccombs Kerry McCombs

Are you saying you think Jeremy Renner looks like Nathan Fillion? I got excited by the Firefly reference, but don’t understand the context.

      • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

yes, I am. Esp in that cover. mrawr.

        • Meg0GayGuys6

I never made that connection but yea, they totally look alike in that picture!

  • mshesterp

DAMNATION, that man is hot.  He just looks like he wants to do dirty, unspeakable, sexy things to you.

I saw this photo last week and immediately sent it to my girlfriend telling her we need to see the new Bourne–opening night!Where are the real men left in Hollywood??

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

Amen to the dirty, unspeakable, sexy things. I’d totally let him too.

I agree, the men of Hollywood are becoming more and more…. ladylike… in their ways. He’s like a tall drink of sexy manhood.

      • filmcricket

Well, a shot glass of sexy manhood anyway. He’s pretty wee – not sure he’s a “tall” anything. ;)

        • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I did think about that after I posted it, which was obviously too late. I can agree with a shot glass of anything delicious.

          • carpediva

Pssss! You can edit posts after the fact! Gurl, that has saved me from some embarrassingly mis-typed shit!

    • RebeccaKW

Exactly.  He’s not traditionally handsome, but the sum of all his parts make him so.  I just love him. Nice to see a man not wearing floaty scarves and bead bracelets.

Where do I sign up to have the dirty unspeakable things done to me?

      • mshesterp

I’m not a girl who likes pretty boys, so I actually love that his face is so man-on-the-street.  He is delectable.  Mmm…I appreciate an intense-looking man.

        • RebeccaKW

Definitely.  I like men who look like men.  Not like they’d ask to borrow my face cream.

          • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

or like they’ve ALREADY borrowed my face cream. I mean, use sunscreen, no one wants you to have cancer, but stay away from my Perricone and Amore Pacific…please.

          • RebeccaKW

Yes.  It’s one thing to smear some lotion on after a shower/shave.  Another to have a regimen.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

I LOVE Jeremy Renner. So dirty-hot. I turn 23 this weekend – will someone get him for me, please?

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Do we have consensus on his hotness?  I see all the elements, but for some reason, I’m not feeling it.  I feel like he’s been advanced to official hotness and no one cleared it with me.  How has this happened?  Who authorized this?

      • mshesterp

We have reached consensus, and you must pull it together and get on board.  Dude is delicious!

      • Perigee

I think there is an issue regarding masculine hotness v. handsomeness.  Renner is not handsome.  His lack of facial symmetry; huge, misshapen nose; not particularly great jawline; and consistently bad haircuts establish that.  If handsomeness is a necessary condition of hotness for you, you cannot sign off on him being hot.

That said, for a lot of us, handsomeness is a common, although not essential, element of hotness.  Some other elements of hotness that Renner is displaying here include fitness as defined by sweaty, well-developed muscles; intensity as displayed by blazing eyes and furrowed brow; and masculinity as defined by the fact that he looks less groomed than the fairer sex and makes a grey t-shirt look attractive.  I think the consensus is that he is hot, but I totally understand your inability to sign off on this.  The Hotness Board notes your objection in the notes, but proceeds with it’s prior determination.

        • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Ha!  That made me smile.  He seems kind of nebbish-y, which I normally like, but butch-nebbish isn’t working for me (at least in this case).  My objection having been noted, I’ll defer to the Board’s decision.

        • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

This may be my favorite comment in the history of comments.

        • littlemac8

OH, the intensity.  He is coiled and ready to pounce!  Pounce on me!  Clive Owens also has that not quite handsome one moment, smoldering hunk the next.  Fans herself!

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

He’s not really my idea of hot but I do like Perigee’s splitting of hot v handsome.

  • Sobaika

I don’t personally find him the most attract of men in Hollywood. But then I see his arms and forget everything.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

      Those arms are unREAL. Heavens.

    • TieDye64

Same here. And those arms. With ropes…

  • hmariec19

    Be still my heart.

  • Linda Fitzgerald

oh yum!  with ropes and everything!

    • Scott Hester-Johnson

..and that’s just the veins on his forearms!

      • Kristin McNamara

        HAHA

  • Vaniljekjeks

    Oh, hello there!

  • MilaXX

Yummy! Just want put him in my pocket and take him home.

  • Michee Rose

Aww, you left out my favorite ones–where he’s smirking like he knows something you don’t know, but you’ll love it when you find out. Right along with those “dirty, sexy things” everyone else is talking about. Although I don’t really get the gun…

  • http://twitter.com/Kathy_Marlow Kathy Marlow

He’s pretty high on my list of fictional boyfriends I’d love to have…these photos put him higher…(never above Hugh Jackman though, never)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/4FFZ2YKVZ3M2KFHTOJZLLNF3TA Genibee

Ah, yes. These floated around the rabid Rennerite faction a few days ago, leaving a trail of underwear in their wake.

    • tereliz

The only way this comment could have been better is if you’d included the word “sodden” in there somewhere. ;)

  • schadenfreudelicious

he always reminds me a bit of Daniel Craig, a similar masculine handsomeness, and those are indeed some fine arms right there….

    • charlotte

Yep, especially in the second picture. Brothers in arms (pun intended).

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Y’know, I’ve never considered Jeremy Renner to be handsome, per se, but he just exudes manliness and sexiness. I’m going to go stand in front of the AC unit now.

  • moppet

“On taking over the Bourne franchise: “That’s a huge
responsibility. I had to think about what that would mean for my family,
my friends, my personal life. It shifts all those relationships in
different ways. We can’t just go have a cup of coffee somewhere. So it

He is hot to death. But, come on. This is a movie role, not the presidency.

    • http://twitter.com/joking11 Johnna

But for an actor that had never pulled a lead in a major studio film it is sending him into a more public world. He traditionally has kept to small indie films or smaller roles in the bigger films.  Even with his former Oscar noms, the paparazzi will be more prone to follow him and him with his family, with the success of The Avengers and now leading in the Bourne film.  He’s already showing up in more of the gossip pages arriving at airports, having dinner or whatever.

Personally, I am not one of the people that believe because they choose acting as a career they give up their right to any private life. I do appreciate the event pictures but who cares where he had dinner at the night before?

    • JasmineAM

Well becoming the lead actor in a movie franchise is like being thrown to the wolves. I hate the “woe is me” from celebs too, but remember how fast those stupid Twilight kids got thrown into it? They can’t do anything in public without being chased or harassed. It is something major to consider, in my opinion.

    • moppet

Foo. I just can’t help but think what he’s really saying is “now I’ll have to answer even more questions about whether I’m gay.” I guess I am just resisting his use of the term “huge responsibility” for an acting role — a role that he could have turned down if he wanted to make indies for the rest of his life. That’s a fine life for an actor, too, and a path he could have easily chosen.

Please don’t think my grumbling means I no longer think he’s hot. I most certainly do.

ETA: Sorry, I meant this comment in response to Johnna and JasmineAM, but I put it in the wrong place.

    • http://shellacuntilshiny.blogspot.in/ ShellacUntilShiny

If it was all “woe is me” I’d say yeah yeah, another selfish actor, but that he’s talking about how his family & friends would be effected (affected? can never get those two right) says he’s thinking outside his own precious little box.

I agree with Joanna – leave ‘em alone, they *entertain* they do not make decisions that change the lives of millions or even thousands (like politicians & corporate heads).

Love seeing them in magazine spreads/articles or at premiers & special events (like front row at a fashion show), but the fact that whole industries have been created just to follow them around for pictures – especially ones that hope to expose “dirt”, get pictures of their families, and generally dig into every aspect of their life that no one should have to deal with is deplorable.

Would not at all be surprised if the crap that the paps, TMZ and similar pull has more to do with the breakdown of entertainer’s family lives and the breakdown of themselves in general (drugs, alcohol, emotional issues in general) than just being in the industry itself.

    • Perigee

Isn’t all of his protesting moot when he was in The Avengers, the biggest movie of the summer?  A little late for family considerations I think.

      • Courtney Ashe

True, but the Avengers was an ensemble picture, and he was hardly the best known of the ensemble.

  • alyce1213

I think he’s a pretty good actor and he’s got a nice physique with big veiny arms.  But as superficial eye candy, I can’t get past his weak chin and sort of blobby nose.  I just don’t think he’s a ‘looker’ as many here do.  His kind of masculinity affect simply doesn’t turn me on.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/C5V2EGUMM2GBH5YBQ74Y4SUOQM Maev

    I am terrible, because there

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/C5V2EGUMM2GBH5YBQ74Y4SUOQM Maev

I am terrible because even though I know he’s a good actor (he was great in the Hurt Locker) there is something about him that just makes me giggle – I find it very hard to take him seriously.  Maybe it’s that I keep seeing the magical unfolding bow sequence from the Avengers in my head.

  • quiltrx

I can totally see him as Bourne–I think he’s an inspired choice.

    • GillianHolroyd

Yeah, he’s got that same compact look that Matt Damon had.

  • bluefish

    Sexy Beast!

  • filmcricket

This guy needs to do a stoner buddy comedy stat, before he becomes completely typecast.

  • formerlyAnon

I love me some androgyny, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a fella who looks like a real, genuine grown man.

  • Brenna McClellan

I straight up fainted at the sight of this cover. That man is a god. He is literally ruining my life with his perfection.

  • boweryboy

    Yawn

  • Vlasta Bubinka

I love a man who can make palindromes sexy…

  • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

Aaaw how cute. He was one of the leads in the hit movie of all times and still thinks he’s an unknown.

    • filmcricket

True. But how memorable was he in it, really? He had to compete with RDJ, who walks away with nearly every flick he’s in; one of the Hemsworths, who does nothing for me but apparently makes the entire internet’s panties wet; the Hulk, being awesome; Sam Jackson being himself; and ScarJo in a leather catsuit. The only one in that movie who made less of an impression than Renner was Pine. Not to mention that (I think) his character was the only one that hadn’t appeared in a previous blockbuster.

      • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

He had a cameo in Thor, but I agree that doesn’t really count (though you could argue that he was undercover in MI3 as much of Tumblr has done ;) . I thought he was pretty cool. The only one who dissapointed me was Chris Evans (is that who you meant by Pine?).

        • filmcricket

Yes, sorry, Evans. All these bland, fair-haired lads confuse me I can’t keep them straight!

  • belfebe

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tessie-Bee/100002109821232 Tessie Bee

Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Jeremy Renner but not in this hyper masculine ‘Me manly, me killer’ manner. I like his humour and dirty/cheeky smile

  • http://shellacuntilshiny.blogspot.in/ ShellacUntilShiny

Well, I think I know what my next vibe’s name will be …

  • aristida_girl

He is a perfect Aaron Cross…

  • TheOriginalLulu

I guess I’m in the minority because I think the look on his face on that cover is downright comical. I’m sure it’s meant to be sexy (and it’s apparently working for a lot of people), but to me he just looks goofy.

    • http://twitter.com/SuzBald Susan Baldwin

Oh, are we supposed to look at his face?  :-)

      • TheOriginalLulu

        LMAO, sorry my bad.
I guess I have always been more of a face person than a guns person.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Oh hey Jeremy.  Thanks for being my pretty for the day.

  • crash1212

Oh. So very intense. He’s a hottie and a great actor, but these are a bit of overkill….and I’m having a tough time thinking of a Bourne movie without Matt Damon.

  • Dr. Derf van der Derf

I must be the only one who doesn’t think he is hot at all.

  • guest2visits

Get your eyeballs off me, Renner.  I’m saving myself for Clive. Or Ewan. Or Daniel. Or…

  • NICHOLAS PASQUALE

Oh…okay. I just passed on him earlier but I suppose a re-evaulation is necessary here.

  • Cat_In_A_Hat

    Oh…. arms…..
