I wonder how good this would look without the cape.  Cate, the bitter kittens didn’t like these shoes the first time you wore them with the paisley tit flap.  Leave. Them. Alone.

    • Sobaika

Me too. It looks great as is, but could potentially look even better with more streamlined proportions.

  • VicksieDo

    Bow down!!!

    • VicksieDo

…AND, nobody puts Ms. Blanchett on the Whiteboard! She’s always interesting with her choices. :-)

  • mshesterp

Hm.  LOVE the skirt, but not sure the two pieces go together.  I’m not sure what the top goes with at all, and the shoes are too heavy.  As always, Cate makes this work more than any other mortal, but it’s a little too different for me.  But interesting, for sure.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Yeah, I agree. The skirt is beautiful. The top is…odd. And I wish she’d worn the belt that the model has on. It’s pretty cool. Hate the shoes. Also, what does she have in that clutch? One lonely lipstick? It looks completely empty.

  • RzYoung

Hmn, interesting… uh…nope, TLO must banish me for I can’t form an opinion! It’s Friday afternoon and this getup has flummoxed me!

  • teensmom99

Even Cate can’t make this work.

  • Vlasta Bubinka

Color me confused. I don’t understand why someone added a piece of a choir robe to the blouse.  Otherwise, she’s just fabulous. The shoes are defiantly unattractive, but maybe she only packed the one pair.

Hasn’t she worn the shoes before? I don’t object wearing the same shoes for the second time, but this pair should not be given second chance. Just No.

    • TieDye64

      True. They’re pretty bad.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

    Killin’It, AGAIN.

  • http://twitter.com/juliafoxtrot Julia Fox

    Killing it.

  • Scarlet39

There’s just too much going on.

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

If that’s a dress, then the designer thought those two parts went together. If it’s a top and a skirt, Cate thought they went together. (Well, really, so did Givenchy, since it was shown that way on the runway.) Either way, that’s no bueno.

  • sagecreek

Oh, dear. As loath as I am to criticize anything that La Blanchett does, this is…well, awful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=49702581 Susan Bullard Mayer

    Nun chic!

  • janetjb

Cate must really love her new shoes.

The skirt is absolutely beautiful on her, I’m glad she didn’t wear the belt but instead included the clutch.

  • MilaXX

Like the dress, hate the shoes. Isn’t this the second time she’s worn them?

  • nannypoo

I don’t understand how this outfit works. The blue band does not appear to be part of the skirt, or anyway it’s not sewn down around the hips. Or if it is sewn around the hips, why is it crooked? If it’s separate, is there something under that cape section that could be worn without the cape? If the cape is attached, how do you get into it? The blue has to zip in the back, and the cape closes in the front. Oh, shit, who cares? The only part I like is her bag.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maya-KC/537771651 Maya KC

Only Lady Cate could make a nun shirt look chic. Slightly too much going on, but she makes it work.

  • quiltrx

I believe this is the first time I’ve ever said this about her…but I think Cate should have gone up a size on the skirt.  When the pattern’s distorting, it’s too small.

And I like the top part, don’t mind the bottom part, but it’s all just weird together.

  • marilyn

She is much too pale for this.  All you see is dress.  I liked it better with the runway model’s belt than without.

  • TropiCarla

Love the clutch and the bottom half of this dress. The top and those shoes? Ugh.

    • poggi

I like the bottom half of the dress too. I think I would like the top half more without the ruffle/ cape element.

  • Sara__B

Those shoes are still ugly, they still make her look like she’s wearing black anklets, and they still stumpify her legs. Away with you, ugly shoes!

  • SpcilK

I love her, she is a risk taker. She appreciates fashion and can work the Hell out of a garment. You go Kate!

  • Imasewsure

I think this is kinda cool on her even with the clunky shoes but I’m starting to really dislike the extreme blond color of her hair. Hope she darkens it up some time in the near future….

  • Jadine Wilson

Who wants to donate to the Jada Needs that Skirt Foundation?

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Oh. Hm. I don’t know if this is working for me. I like the skirt, but I hate the top AND the shoes. Maybe if the top didn’t have that asymmetric cape-like detail?

  • sashaychante

    NO to those shoes.

  • kingderella

perfection! love the dress, the shoes i can take or leave, love the clutch!

  • mommyca

she always looks so chic, but I can’t stand behind the shoes… but the skirt and shirt are fabulous…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

Like on her. Not sure who else could wear…

  • Patricia Gillett

I may be in the minority but I like everything but the shoes here. I think she’s working it and giving some fierce face, as well. A more delicate shoe would have balanced this out more. Somewhere out there in fashion world, there is a dress that goes with these shoes but Cate has not found it yet.

  • SophieCollier

    I like it!

  • formerlyAnon

Not great. The “feel” of the top is too different from the “feel” of the bottom. Each is good on it’s own but they work against each other.  Shoe fail.

  • TieDye64

For the life of me I don’t how she’s doing it, but she’s killing it.

  • Samantha Irene

another day another tit flap – this time it’s double sided!

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

What’s the opposite of a “scroll down fug”?  Whatever it is, that’s how I felt about this ensemble.  The top is a misery but as I scrolled down it got better.
Peplums (pepla?) just don’t do it for me, whether they’re over the hips or over the bust.

  • NDC_IPCentral

It is JULY, and it is beastly hot in New York, where Ms. Blanchett was photographed.  VELVET on the shoes in July?  The whole outfit, flawed as it is, is NOT a summer look.  How Vivier calls this “resort” – not a resort where it’s hot.  For the luvamike, people, dress for the season and the weather.

  • NICHOLAS PASQUALE

That clutch is awesome and I love her and she looks great okay love you bye.

  • guest2visits

I really love the skirt portion of this, and I really hate the asymetry of the top. But wouldn’t you just know it; Cate is making it
work; even if not in a beautiful-pretty way - but more an artsy, interesting kind of way. I miss the model’s belt.
The clutch she chose is fine; but I would have liked most any other black shoe.

  • LambeeBaby

Love Love Love the dress. The colors and pattern are beautiful. The wore those shoes with something else recently and it didn’t work with that either. I wish she had chosen a different shoe AND that she had done more with her hair.

  • Maddie_Faddenoid

Givenchy and Blanchett have been all about the weird tops lately.

  • jmorino08

The skirt is way too tight and the top is way too blousy. I think I wore something with similar proportions to an 8th grade school dance. I didn’t realize Forenza was still a thing!

  • afabulous50

    WTF??  This is horrible.

  • kittenwithaquip

Are those visible Spanx lines in pictures 4 and 5?

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Oh, dear.

  • http://twitter.com/kerrymccombs Kerry McCombs

I love it all, tip to toe. She doesn’t really age does she?

  • BrightsideSusan

Not thrilled with the top and the shoes are too heavy. Sorry Cate.

  • Daenyx

I want to like it, but I can’t with the collar.

  • Cat_In_A_Hat

Dear god, I want that skirt. Let me have it.

  • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

If the bottom was sold as a separate skirt, I’d be first in line.  But this is a Hell of a lot better than Madonna’s Givenchy. Cate got class.
