Honey, your dress is gorgeous. Just don’t eat so many strawberries before your next appearance, OK?

  • lilibetp

The color is glorious on her, but the lipstick is not.  Something about the proportions seems off, though.  Her torso looks really long and her legs look really short.

    • http://twitter.com/Kathy_Marlow Kathy Marlow

That bow/ruffle hybrid could be about 3-6 inches higher (like where it belongs…on her HIP) and it’d be perfect.  If the lips were RED, she’d be a WERQ…along with that “minor” design change.

    • kimmeister

The lipstick color looks different in every shot!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I think the problem is that even though it’s a gorgeous dress it’s also too much dress for her, she looks like a melting candle at a fancy wedding… it’s swallowing her.

    • AlexisPayne

Totally agree, I was trying to figure out if it was the camera angle or the dress.

  • Clueless_Jock

    It’s a bit much.

    • carpediva

      Eggggs-zactly.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

Yeah, seems a bit grand dame for the Critics’ Choice awards

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

What’s with the side cutout? Seems a little gratuitous. Otherwise, I like this, though I would have preferred it in another color because she does look a bit like an awards statue.

  • amf0001

those dresses that somehow lead your eye to the arm pit… don’t know why they are doing that but it’s not the best part of a woman’s body and I wish they didn’t!

  • throwslikeagirl

Too much fabric. The dress is wearing her.

  • http://twitter.com/hdl_b Heather Barkman

She looks like she’s drowning in gold fabric.

  • http://twitter.com/Lily1129 Lily

    That’s….a lotta dress.

  • Golfkat

I don’t understand this Whiteboard page. What’s the idea behind it? Posting the outfits that there’s not time enough to comment on because they aren’t good enough or bad enough?

    • lizajane1776

TLo have stated that there was too much fashion out there for them to comment on it all, but that we bitter kittens wanted to see. They have also said that there isn’t much logic applied to Whiteboard v regular blog post; unless it is something they WANT to talk about, they post it here. A service so we get more fashion.

That being said, I think this is a bit too much for her. She looks great but just not quite comfortable in it.

      • Sue_Asponte

Agreed, but also, I think TLo is giving us the opportunity to be the commenters… as we do. So it’s a place for us to be the analysts.

Agreed also on your analysis. It’s a beautiful dress and she’s a beautiful girl, but it’s a bit too much for her. Literally. It comes up too far on her shoulder, and drags too long in the hem. I love Karan, but this needs to have a sleeker silhouette.

      • Golfkat

Thanks for clearing that up! :)

    • moppet

Basically, yes. TLo explained a few weeks back but I can’t link you to it because putting links into a post seems to send them to moderation purgatory.

    • MilaXX

In addition to what Lizajane1776 said, it’s kinda the best of both world’s. We BK’s get something to talk about & TLo don’t have to come up with 1,500 words about an outfit.

  • moppet

Wow. Doesn’t this feel more Oscar Red Carpet than [Random Award] red carpet? It is pretty but it is a lot of gown.

    • kimmeister

      Totally.

  • marilyn

The initial impression is  glamorous in the old-school way.  Perfect for the ultimate occasion, like the Oscars.  I am not a fan of the side opening, but that is my taste.  This is opulence, and she is probably overdressed for whatever occasion this is.

Just wondering-how did she avoid the side boobage problem?  Solving that alone makes the whole look higher class

She needs to put this dress away for the next time she goes to the opera, goes to the Oscars, etc.

  • dsco3031

I actually really love this, but I do agree that it’s too much for this event. It looks like most other attendees wore cocktail dresses– this is a very dramatic, very fancy gown.

  • jmorino08

Except for the over exposed back/side boob near miss, this dress has Joan Collins written all over it. And Emmy Rossum, you are no Joan Collins… Nor should you aspire to be, at least not until a few decades pass.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It’s a beautiful dress, but doesn’t it seem a bit too much for her? Maybe it’s the train, or the shoulder accent, or the bow thingy… It looks like it’s overwhelming her. I think someone like Charlize Theron (or another taller ladystar) might be able to pull off this dress much better.

  • jilly_d

    poster child for “wrong proportions”.

  • mike__tv

sleazy satin bed sheets, just saying. With a fabric like this less is more.

  • TAGinMO

    Um…what is HAPPENING here?

  • AlinaValero

i don’t think she’s tall enough for this? weird proportions.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Not tall enough, not busty enough, not mature enough.  She’s a pretty girl, but that dress is overwhelming her!

  • Vlasta Bubinka

I can’t help but wonder how many drag queens she had to wrestle to score this dress.

  • allisankelly

First – Was SHE the actual trophy to be won? Second – that’s A LOT OF DRESS for such a little gal. Third – Hip Bustle.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Yards and Yards and Yards of shiny stuff. She must really like that fabric!

  • MilaXX

It’s pretty but the train seems a bit too long and as much as I love a bold lip, I think a she could have worn a softer lip with this.

  • 3boysful

It’s a pretty color, but simply too much dress–side cut-out, half a portrait collar, gathered bunches of extra fabric  . . . I could go one but will stop.

  • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

Y’know, eliminate the hip bow and hem it to mid-calf and this would look quite nice.

Whiteboard: for when Tom and Lorenzo don’t want to criticize Donna Karan.

  • schadenfreudelicious

too much gold lame for a wee girl, she needs about a foot of height and another decade of age to pull that one off…

  • Lisa Dugan

She looks very elegant but I don’t love the poof shoulder and poof bow being on the same side.  It’s too much.

  • Lina_bee

That’s a great dress, which kind of surprises me because I don’t think of DK when I think of huge gold lame gowns.  But poor Emmy looks like she’s being swallowed by the floor. I know it’s an illusion created by the bodice making her already long waist seem even longer, but man does it stumpify her legs.

  • TSkot

Someone thinks they’ve not been getting enough attention.  Just a wee bit overdressed.

  • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

That is a great dress for her. I remember a few years ago when she seemed to have an almost Taylor Swift-like obsession with dressing like a perpetual ingenue.  I’m glad that she’s over it – she’s been pulling off some smashing looks recently.

The lipstick, however, is pretty bad, almost to the point of ruining the whole look for me.

  • BrightsideSusan

Too much dress for such a petite person.

  • Sara__B

That blindingly awful lipstick was all I could see at first. If I cover up her lips and try to concentrate on the dress…. from most angles the proportions of the dress don’t suit the proportions of her body. I think she’s too short for this gown. In the last picture, where she’s cut off at the knees, she looks pretty good. When I cover up her lips.

  • guest2visits

O this is gorgeous –  and then she turned.  It didn’t need a huge missing side panel. It needed the drape to be adjusted to fit her
at the waist/hip; it’s pulling her down. Makes the dress look a bit too long.

  • quiltrx

So beautiful!  The lip is a bit bright…and is this dress sort of ‘a lot’ for this event?  She looks beautiful just the same.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

She looks fabulous, but her face is more suited to “sweeter” or “feminine” styles.

Nude lip or bronze tones would have suited the dress better.

  • Amy Ellinger

Looks like the Statue of Liberty had a love child with the Oscar statue….

  • RzYoung

I think she looks gorgeous, I love the back of the dress

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

everything is pretty great aside from the makeup, maybe a lighter, orange-er shade on the lips and a more molten, deeper gold/rosegold/bronze on the eye.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

    Looks great!

  • PaulaBerman

It’s too much dress for her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=611638 Jessica Brams-Miller

This makes me think of the Velveeta Cheesy Skillet commercials… LIQUID GOOOOOOOOLD.

  • Coralie Legister

I think there are too many elements to the dress. The colour is so stunning and dramatic that it didn’t need the big bow, the big sash AND the big shoulder.
