Sophie Rhys-Jones, Countess of Wessex, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall attend the annual Order of the Garter Service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in Windsor, England. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge wore an Alexander McQueen coat dress paired with clutch and shoes by L.K. Bennett pumps and a Jane Corbett hat.

       I think the hats are all picked to be ridiculous in a very tongue-in-cheek way, like “ok, I have to wear a hat, which I never would in reality, so why not have a bit of fun with them” the fact that they are silly and over the top is sort of the point.  Witness the craziness that Andrew and Furgie’s daughters wear.  Kate would never be able to get away w/their hats but she can still have fun.  I imagine her snickering and giggling every time she puts those things on her head :)

    Are they wearing white stockings, or are their legs really that much paler than their faces?

      I wondered that yesterday when I first saw the pictures. They’re probably just wearing sheer hose but their legs don’t usually look that pale.

       Soph and Cammie seem to be wearing ivory/off white stockings. The coloring on their legs is too even to be sheer hose. Kate is likely wearing her trademark sheer hose. I’m guessing her legs are just pale since sunbathing can be sort of difficult with the papz constantly around.

      I also think that violet carpet is reflecting on their legs and giving them a blueish tinge.

      They are all definitely wearing sheer white hose. Whose brilliant idea was that? (she asked sarcastically.). This whole assemblage looks a bit too girly and giggly for me. Camilla needs to go find the grown ups.

      Also, we would all enjoy seeing the beautiful tailoring of that jacket’s collar and shoulder if our little Catherine would pull that mop of hair up and give it a twist. Okay girl?

        I don’t really mind the girly/giggly thing. It’s nice to see the royals relaxed and having a laugh like normal people. It’s a good reminder that they ARE actually real people. As with any class of people, it’s always good to see the different generations together and enjoying each other’s company.

          I always get a little jolt whenever I see Catherine laughing with Camilla, almost like she’s being disloyal to Diana’s memory. Then I remember — she does not have a history with Diana, which makes it possible for her to have an amiable relationship with her step-mother-in-law.

          I love the coat dress in the grey plaid on the model. Too bad the white makes it difficult to see the details.

      I saw some other photos from the same day, and their legs all look normal.  I think they were all wearing sheer, nude hose and it was the reflection from the carpet that made them look so blue-white.

    Love the coat, but I am distracted by Camilla’s necklace.  That is some SERIOUS jewelry going on there.

      She’s worn that one quite a few times before, including to Zara Phillips’ wedding. It’s a 5-strand pearl choker with a ginormous amethyst stone surrounded by diamonds. She also has a smaller, 3-strand one that she has worn for decades; that one belonged to her mother. If she’s wearing big honking diamonds, those are usually borrowed from The Queen.

         That necklace is kind of her signature look, I think. As Helen Gurley Brown has said, after a certain age all you can really count on is good posture and real jewelry.

    Cathy’s showing a LOT of leg there (for her). She looks cute! Though I wish that she’s PLEASE add some color. I know it’s the rules to be all monochromatic, but can she please sneak in a pop of color or contrast every once in a while?

    It’s a fabulous coat, but I think the length and shape combined are coming off a little young. I’d like it better if it hit just above her knee cap. Also, I refuse to accept that that was the best hat she could find.

    All 3 Duchesses look fantastic, was the colour mandatory I wonder? have to say Camilla can still rock a frock but Katherine looks impeccable. Love it!!

    Have you noticed how much Camilla looks like Prince Phillip?  And that can’t be good. 

    This looks like a carefully coordinated wardrobe for a ladies and carefully staged pictures.  Okay.

    I almost thought this was the start of a mass wedding, but realized who the ‘brides’ were.

    I’m gonna go against the grain–j’adore Kate’s hat.  To me, its architectural quality, and the fact that I believe the entire thing, incldg bow, is some natural fiber, makes it quite fresh.

    And I’m tellin ya, fellow minion kittens, we all need a pair of those shoes!  She wears them so often to the exclusion of others that there’s gotta be some secret cushioning in them known only to princesses!

       I like the hat as well. The hats are supposed to be a little silly so I like seeing how she works them in with regular clothes.

    I love everything going on here minus the shoes. I’m beginning to think those shoes are a part of some royal decree since the Camilla and the Countess are wearing similar footwear.

      I wonder if Kate’s shared her secret almost-comfortable heels secret with Camilla, who went out and found/had made a lower-heeled version. Because those are the least sturdy, “mother of the bride” shoes I’ve seen her wear in years and years. (not that I’m a Camilla watcher or anything.)

    I’m not sure how that is “resort” at all, McQueen, but as usual, I think she looks adorable.  Actually , I think all the ladies do!  She always looks like so much fun to me.  I don’t love her fascinator, but I rarely do.  Sophie’s is cuter.

    Yay! Something FUN. Or at least as fun as it gets standing in your LK Bennetts next to Camilla. Even the hat is frothy and light
    compared to most of the severe, sharp little saucers. I hope Catherine purchases the McQueen coatdress in the grey plaid too;
    she would look stunning.  I wonder if that little bag needs to be mine; let’s go see how much…

        Every time I see Camilla standing in Catherine’s shoes, as in all the public events; I’m creeped out.
        Camilla has had a team to refurbish her looks, her wardrobe, and her past. (just try to find the detailed articals
        of the life she’s led; before and after her first marriage, and what a manipulative spider she has always been; I can
        no longer find them, - and it was decades ago when I first read them !)

        Whenever I see them together, I feel anxious for Catherine.

    Going by Kate and Sophie’s expressions Camilla is either telling a really dirty joke or passing on some juicy gossip in that second pic :)

    The pale colours are probably to contrast with the Garter robes. There does also seem to be some conscious attempts to prevent Kate or anyone else standing out more that the queen during the jubilee period, hence Kate’s mostly seen before outfits and the co-ordination. Right and proper I think.

    Love Kate’s dress.  But Camilla looks FABULOUS. Look at her shoes! Those are the least “sturdy mother of the bride” pair I’ve ever seen on her! ETA: well, maybe not EVER seen on her. But “than I’ve seen on her in years” works.
