    Not crazy about Laura Carmichael’s dress, but she really does look great altogether. Michelle Dockery looks lovely, as usual, but I have to say, Joanne outdoes them all! Ah, the irony.

    Okay, yes, Sybil’s dress is pretty awful, but her makeup is actually an improvement. But seriously girl, get a stylist. She’s incredibly beautiful but always looks a mess when not on DA.

    Joanne generally looks the best at these things, and this is no exception. She looks fantastic.

    as for dresses:
    in order: 1, 4, 2, & bringing up the sad, drop-waisted rear, 3.
    4 & 3 are actually very close in my mind, although i gave 4 the edge cos of the fab color. the thoroughly unfab & totally incongruous useless peplum, though, made that edge rather narrow. the wearer of dress 2, otoh, is doing the near-impossible by making a drop-waist work for her, so perhaps she deserved the edge after all. i just have a fierce fondness for that hunter green.
    otoh, i dont think a single accessory works. the shoes are all circling the hideous hole whilst the only pocketbook i see looks not only inappropriate for its outfit but also entirely too much like a newspaper was rolled up & dipped into a vat of liquid leather before a couple pieces of antler were broken off & affixed to its face.

    somebody else has gotta do hair & makeup, it’s not my forté. also sometimes it feels like too personal a criticism for me to make, while clothing is inanimate & can far more easily be just, you know, changed. anyway, back to work for me.

    I think Jessica is so gorgeous in everything I’ve seen her in (so Downton Abbey and Misfits), but she always looks like shit on the RC. Why, Jess, why?

    And Joanne is definitely killing it.

    Jessica Brown Findlay looks awful; hate the dress, and PLEASE powder that forehead!!
    Michelle Dockery looks nice in a conservative old-school way…Laura Carmichael is cute out of period-wear, but her neckline is too conservative.
    The only one really working it here is Joanne Froggatt. She looks AMAZING. Not a hair out of place, and that dress is stunning on her.

    This was a special kind of scrolldown fug in that each woman looked worse (and they are all so beautiful! Just borng/ugly dresses) until one got to Joanne, who looks good enough to make up for the rest of them.

    Like: top half of Laura’s outfit and Michelle’s dress (though NOT the sad shoes). Joanne’s dress is ok, but it really looks like a negligee with a peplum.

    Don’t like: anything about Jessica’s look. She is so beautiful, it is sad how bad she looks on the red carpet. She clearly doesn’t care, which is fine, I guess. She is probably a very cool person. Yes.

    Edith looks like a bookmark in that dress.  Awful.  Awful color, awful shape, awful shoes.  Mary’s dress looks like one I had for church in 1978.  Hideous.  Sybil’s dress is equally awful and unflattering.  Anna’s dress looks like a bridesmaid’s or prom dress, and her boobs look crooked.  Four fails.

    I don’t know what it is with them… there’s always something *off* about each of their red carpet looks. Laura Carmichael’s shoes are absolutely atrocious (and Michelle Dockery’s and Jessica Brown Findlay’s aren’t much better). All three of the ‘sisters’ need serious hair and makeup consults.

    Ms. Frogatt is the only one who knows how to dress her body, and even she’s a bit boring. I mean, she’s lovely, don’t get me wrong, and I don’t know what kind of gays she has at her disposal, but the hair is a bit limp. The others, gawd, where to start. Brava to Ms. 
    Carmichael for taking a risk, but that is so utterly the wrong shape for her – she looks like a glittery brick, and her makeup is sad. Ms Dockery needs some blush and eyeshadow before she scares the children with her pale severity. And her lip color is all wrong and she needs some jewelry. Ms. Findlay looks like a fun girl who’s been done wrong by some vindictive queen – JBF hair and a dirty looking shift that matches your skin tone gives ALL the wrong signals, my dear, not to mention the sadly matchy shoes.
