I like the longer length. On the runway version it looks like she’s hitched up her skirts to have a wee.

    • Kristin McNamara

i don’t really love either! the runway is too mullet-ey. and i think the longer version makes her look SO stumpy! in that first picture, she looks (to me) like an actual little person…

  • jenno1013

Good color for her.  Hair is lovely and make-up is like a make-up ad.  Like the dress from the front, but hate the visible corset and jumble of ribbons in the back.  Bag is hiddy.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

So agree! She had me until I saw the corset. And yes, Carrie dear, we all see the bag.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I loved it until the back view. What a way to ruin an amazing dress!

    • FlamingJune1967

I agree completely!  And, Yes, that make-up is perfect!

  • SorayaS

Nooo. Not to say the runway version looked better (it doesn’t) but a blonde woman just cannot wear this dress- too Barbie (and not in a good way). Its too juvenile. The colour is great though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=664429801 Kate Clausen

My thoughts exactly.  Curly blonde hair + this froufrou dress = saccharine.  I think I’d like it more on an edgy brunette.  (Or course, now I can’t think of an example.)  I find her hair generally to be too Barbie, she needs something more current.

  • mshesterp

I think it’s too much from the back, too big and messy, but I actually really like it in the front, although it’s almost a “Girl that’s not your dress” moment–I feel like it needs to be someone fiercer wearing it.  But the bag’s awful–she should’ve tried to darken it up instead of making it all barbie doll, like she usually does. But still, interesting dress, but less than inspired styling.

    • SorayaS

I was thinking maybe Lily Collins (though she’s probably over all the Snow White drag). It’s probably too fussy for Zoe Saldana even!

  • RzYoung

If it were knitted, she’d be a toilet roll cover/cosy

  • http://twitter.com/Lily1129 Lily

I do like the longer length that Carrie has here, it’s less abstract and more red carpet. However, I have a real problem with large messes of tulle. There comes a point where it looks less like a planned design and more like the designer ran out of time and stapled some on so she wouldn’t be half-naked.

  • Judy_S

I really dislike this dress. The top part is just  ugly. It looks like it was made for the prom by a kid with more talent than skill. The woman herself looks great and appropriately Barbieesque for this dress, but the dress makes her look silly.

    • Judih1

I agree. Dress reminds me of gray cotton candy

  • kat89

She looks like a Barbie Doll. Aside from that, she looks cute.

  • MilaXX

My first thought when I saw this was, “That’s a lotta dress.” Then  I realized I kinda like it on her. Looking at the runway version I think I like it even than on the model. I like that she just went full on Barbie princess with it.
    It works, go figure.

  • http://twitter.com/Arathriel Adrienn K.

Pretty dress – if a little too princessy – and the colour suits her but it makes her look like a midget. I also would have liked some more interesting shoes and that clutch is kind of unflattering.

    • AmandaCathleen

I was starting to think I was the only one who thinks thinks dress makes her look extremely short. I agree with the above commenter who said this is a “girl, that’s not your dress” moment, but not because she isn’t fierce enough to pull this off, but because she’s not *tall* enough.

  • sherrietee

I don’t understand the massive corset ties in the back.  Isn’t there enough ribbony nonsense on this dress as it is?

I was originally going to state that it suits her, but the more I look at it, the less I like it.  It reminds me of when I was little – I had a cinderella halloween costume that I adored.  I wore it three years in a row.  The final year, it was shot.  It no longer fit me well, it had some tears, and it was sad.  So, I put some ashes on it from our fireplace and became Cinderella, before the ball.  That’s what this dress reminds me of.  She’s Cinderella, before the godmother fixed her up.  That’s not an image you should have on the red carpet.  Ever.

    • snarkmeister

Yeah, it just looks like a chimney sweep bridal gown.  Poufy, dirty, and disheveled.  I think Carrie looks too clean to be wearing it.  *Dislike*

  • http://twitter.com/Kathy_Marlow Kathy Marlow

I like the idea of the bag, except the large jewels make it tacky as F.  I don’t like the mess in the back with the lace-up corset, it looks like the strings are too long..either that or that’s her foundation garment and she’s waiting for the curtains to finish being sewed up as the real dress…

  • Candice Richardson

She looks like a fairy cake topper.

    • Sobaika

      Eggsaaactly.

    • formerlyAnon

I think she wanted to look like that?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=525367263 Alena Arpels

“I’m a Barbie girl in a Barbie world”..

  • Ksagun13

Too busy.  There’s so much going on around the knees, it pulls your eyes down — not the place you want to focus on the red carpet.  However, it fits her much better in the bust than on the runway model.

  • famousamy

Looks like a shower poof. But I actually like it. :)

  • Kyle Crawford

It needed Scarlet Austin to shove some Christmas lights up into it.. and way way to much for such a casual rc.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Liz-Neale/501427994 Liz Neale

Unfortunate that the dress is the exact shade of the carpet. Makes it all seem a bit too much on the bottom to me.

  • TheDivineMissAnn

Prom dress.  That would be about the right age for someone to wear this dress.  Not crazy about the purse either, but I love, love, love the diamond ring and bracelet.

  • Briana Campbell

Initially, I think it’s beautiful.  But the front looks longer than the runway version, which makes it more bridal.  It also looks like the corset is bunching in the back, detracting from the elegance/maturity of the dress.  Dangerously close to wedding/prom territory.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

my first reaction was, “WAY too much dress for her”.  And on second viewing, I still feel that way. The color is perfect for her, and the dreamy aspect of it is fine, but it simply makes her look like a loosely wound ball of curtain sheers, about to be taken to the dry cleaners.

  • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

Love the drama of the dress and that’s a great color, but the silhouette really highlights how short she is.

  • kikisayshi

I don’t know if it’s just the angle of the photo, but at first glance this dress really shortens her torso. There is way too much foof going on as well.

  • Sweetpea176

The tulle explosion and corset ties ruins what would otherwise have been a very lovely dress — on Emma Watson or a Fanning sister.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/C5T2QPOAWOBDRHFL2MFAV7KQCY Tracy

“Hey hon, your cousin called up and she’s starting a new accessories line called ‘Kathy’s Kute Klutches’.  She makes ‘em all right here in Butcher Holler with stuff she finds at Hobby Lobby! It’s the darndest thing. Anyway, would you do me a big favor and carry one at one of your fancy events? It would get your Aunt Shayla off my back, she’s callin’ about every day. Thanks Care-bear! love you!”

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/K3O2QNXDJIU3AJINAGNJRYWDZ4 mrspotts66

    pretty dress.
it makes her look about 3 feet tall, though.

  • http://twitter.com/Putting_On_Airs Kathleen

I really wish she would get away from the princess looks – but I suppose messy tulle is about as close as Ms. Underwood gets to down and dirty. Someone needs to let her know that there are other fashion icons aside from Barbie.

  • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

I have mixed feelings regarding the dress (is it really pretty… or is she channeling the other Carrie, Bradshaw?), but she looks amazing. Girl has learnt to pose and give face, and she’s using her extremely good genes to the best effect.

  • In_Stitches

The Kim Zolziac hair-extensions and the bubblegum purse take it straight to Barbie-Drag.  The dress isn’t really doing anything for her either; the bodice is a box on her and the skirt hides her shape entirely.  Ditch the purse, yank out the extensions and slap a ruby necklace on her and she might be turning it around.

  • http://profiles.google.com/amanda.leigh.albert Amanda Albert

I love the color for her, but that clutch is making my eyes twitch.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=218100432 Dianna Li

The runway version does look a tad accidental/unintentional, but with hot pins and the right shoes the hitching could have worked off the runway.  Carrie’s styling makes the dress (sans hitch) look too thematic, like she borrowed it from a costume store, and yeah, her perfect blonde curls do not help.  The untidy white corset lacing (apologies for layman lingo) also detracts from the ethereal quality of the dress.
For a girl with such conventionally pretty features she needs something unconventional in her styling to pique our interest.

  • http://twitter.com/iraki86 IraKi

It’s a great color and I can’t say she looks bad but she is more of an inspiration as to what kind of barbie doll to buy my niece rather than a stylish celebrity.

  • rowsella

Now I know where Taylor Swift’s Schtick went…. To Carrie Underwood’s prom!

The strings  and buckets of tulle on the back make it worse.  She looks like Fog.  Polluted Fog at that.  I couldn’t find her feet and then when I did, they make her seem stumpy.  This dress is too long.  If it were shorter (they should have taken it in at the waist), she had worn better shoes (not grey ones) and a better bag and maybe her hair up and jewelry Other Than White… and did something about the back like not make the twill strips so large and obvi….. I don’t know.  She is a pretty girl and her make up is good.  This dress just seems to wash her out.  I love the shoes on the model…  Just too misty for me.

  • Melissa Brogan

Too princessy, and I don’t think that’s a good color on her. The super long corset ribbons are ridiculous and just look out of place. The clutch is all wrong, too.

    • Pannyx

Finally someone else that doesn’t think it is a good color for her.

  • BeeBeauNYC

The model version has more of an interesting edge to it – Carrie’s version really is just one step above a prom dress, the prom theme being “Tinkerbell goes to the prom”.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Many Many thanks to T and Lo. You have successfully come up with another way for me to stay chained to my computer!  You guys rock!

  • nannypoo

I like it. And I like your new whiteboard feature. Awesome.

  • bluefish

I love soft grey and pink together– and the hints of light blue are lovely – but too fussy — and Carrie doesn’t have the height for this explosion of tulle.  The handbag looks like something one might find in the RiteAid toy aisle.  And the over bleached hair mimicking the waves and flow of the gown makes me dizzy.  Still … wow, what an terrible put together runway look.  I mean WTF is going on there.

  • http://twitter.com/baxterb2 Bbart

I would like to introduce Carrie, Princess of the Moldy Cupcakes.

This is too much dress for her. I second the motion – bag is hiddy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1388135260 Kari Petersen Bodrey

How thoughtful of Carrie to wear a sugary wedding cake of a dress with sweet gray icing flowing down as a tribute to Donna Summer. This dress will definitely melt in the rain. Let’s pray to sweet baby Jesus that Carrie won’t find the recipe again.

  • FashionShowAtLunch

It works a lot better with the runway styling (black fishnets and badass shoes). Takes the dress out of froofy princess territory. I quite like the garment. But the way she’s wearing it makes it look like a little girl wanted to play Cinderella and grabbed a bunch of pieces of tulle and wrapped them around herself. It’s amazing what styling can do.

So, no, Carrie. Sorry. I know my opinion means the world to you.

  • Funkykatt

    Disney store dress

  • Hetha Innis

I would normally dislike such a precious gown as this, but the color is beautiful and the trim on the edges of the tulle really punch it up and make it interesting. She is rocking the hell out of this thing and it seems like an appropriate dress for a country music star. That hair is killing me though. So over that look.

  • mjude

i am so not awake for this dress.

  • RebeccaKW

I actually like the drama of the dress.  My biggest problem was her hair.  Those extensions look pretty cheap.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/QCAQPLAUU3WHBJ5AT3BZTWDJJI THEAR

Ooooh!  Look!  Country Princess Barbie, now with Real Singing Voice!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Is it me or does she look like a kitchen scrubbie? When I saw the small picture (just the head and shoulder shot), she looked really pretty but when you got the full Monty, it is just messy looking. Her hair style is pretty and her make up looks great with the dress. But why is her face a totally different color than her skin? And why is her hair color just one note? She looks like a Suicide Blonde (dyed by her own hand) and I think she would look amazing with more than the two colors of black and white.

  • Scarlet39

Wrong dress, wrong girl.    This dress would be better on someone with more edge to her look.  On Carrie, it just looks too frou frou, sugary, and well, Barbie.

  • Fabulous_Camo

Puffy hair and a puffy dress does not fashion forward make!

  • BuffaloBarbara

I want to like it–I have an inexplicable weakness for big puffy skirts–but this is not working for me at all.

  • merciblahblah

I just have two words: Nashville Barbie.

Okay, I have a few more. I like the runway version, and I actually like it with the fishnets because it gives off a kind of Moulin Rouge vibe, which I can dig. I just think the too big hair, matchy shoes and makeup push it into bubblegum territory.

  • Anathema_Device

I can see why T Lo would skip the commentary here: too Barbie, too blonde. She really needs to dial back the hair color a few notches.

  • PastryGoddess

meh.  It’s still very Country Barbie, but much better than what the model was wearing

  • Jennifer Hofstetter

    Cinderella Barbie.

  • minnye

I think it’s perfect. Country stars should be a little OTT.

  • http://www.MintaHall.com/ Minta Hall

Did she fall out of a Disney Princess cartoon?

  • http://twitter.com/LoveTeachPray Jennifer Swegler

    Hello Cindarella want-a-be.

What would have made this better would have been if she had pulled her hair back into something slicker – otherwise this is “I want to be a princess” while the rest of us think… you’re almost 30 hon.  I love the dress  - just not her styling of it.

  • http://badkittyknits.blogspot.com KittyKnits

Drunk Cinderella covered in smoke from a hazy bar.

  • TAGinMO

Shame it matches the carpet. All in all, it’s a lot of look, but I think she’s mostly pulling it off. She should explore that color further.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

This dress is so bizarre – I first thought she was sitting down for the picture.  It does nothing for her, makes her look thick waisted and mono boobed.  Sharon Stone should wear this dress – it’s the outside manifestation of the completely crazy inside.

  • Shoelover1512

    TOO MUCH!

  • Daenyx

All I can think of when I look at this is, “I’M A PRETTY, PRETTY PRINCESS!”

It’s a great color for her, but the longer length looks sloppy.

  • Nicole Chubb

She’s wearing a color, so I’ll give an improvement award :)

  • formerlyAnon

Adorable, very fairy tale princess (a look for which her clock is ticking . . . I’d say she has about 20 minutes left for such juvenalia – not that THAT will stop her, fairy tale princess into your 70s is an established country music tradition.)

Bag is neither appropriate nor quite ironic enough.

ETA: Whiteboard is a BRILLIANT addition to TLo World Media Domination Enterprises! Thank-you.

  • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

WAY too princessy, especially with that hair

  • Jangle57

First thought was ‘how pretty!’  Second thought was, ‘but it’s so sugary sweet, looking at it makes my teeth hurt’

  • chelwi

Love that color on her, but she looks too Barbie. Hideous clutch. Her makeup looks nice, but I don’t like that her eyeshadow matches her dress exactly.

  • http://twitter.com/MrsTRDavis Theresa

loving it all except the bag which looks like she bedazzled it at home. so jealous that her skin is FLAWLESS.

  • quiltrx

That’s quite a dress!  It suits her.  It gets to be a bit too much in the back, but it’s great from the front.

  • SusiePamudji

I rather enjoy this dress on here. It’s a nice color and just big/complicated enough.

  • http://twitter.com/MrsTRDavis Theresa

Who is styling Carrie lately?  Anyone know?  I’m loving all looks since the release of her new album, which all seem to have this “blown away” look going on that isn’t too cookie cutter.

  • Lina_bee

    Lavender Prom Barbie.

  • Lisa Dugan

You can tell she feels good in it.  It’s definitely over the top but fun and she looks great.

  • alyce1213

Like the dress, hate the hair.
I’m a huge de la Renta enthusiast and I love just about everything he does.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

Makes her look a little stumpy, no?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VA5XLSF3QRELSC3MUFSXLP4EIE rebecca

The dress on its own is all kinds of amazing. She is NOT the person to wear it. SHe looks like a four-year old’s Barbie.

  • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

This should’ve been: This Is Not Your Dress – Carrie Underwood Edition. This is the kind of dress that needed to be edged out just because of how dainty it already is. But Carrie just took the Princess theme to another dimension with her matching makeup and diamond earrings and long, curly blonde hair and sparkly clutch and silver heels.

    *dry heaves*

Tie this dress to a balloon and let it float into the air, descending down into the waiting hands of a 18 year old desperately needing a prom dress at the last minute. Or a Quinceanera dress.

  • TheLaurenJean

Way more interesting in the mullet version. This just looks like she stepped on it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=22917995 Nicole Renee

I also think its Barbie-adjacent, but in a good way! She’s got the look so why not go for it! Seems like she’s ‘going for’ a rock and roll Barbie look, and I enjoy it! The back is a total mess though, that’s where the shower pouf vision really comes out.

  • miagain

    oh good grief!

  • Sonia Mistry

OMG no no no no no.  RUNAWAY BRIDE.  This is too poofy for her.  She looks like she’s coming out at the Debutante Ball.

  • Lilyana_F

Giiiirl, where did your legs go… not flattering at all

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donna-Lynn/514336583 Donna Lynn

Glinda the Good Witch called. She wants her dress back. Skip the bag. Hand her a wand..”Come out, come out, wherever you are and see the young lady who fell from a star!” Hair/makeup look good, but I love the shot of people trying to get out of the way of that monster skirt.

    Country Christmas Barbie

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/toodleskitty79?feature=guide AWS

She is going for the princess look but comes up short.  Gray?  Bluish gray?  Don’t like the color on the model or CU.

  • http://twitter.com/SISBitch SIS Bitch

Way too much dress! The makeup looks great, though.

  • TheOriginalLulu

No. The lower half of her body looks as if it got caught up in a big ball of tumbleweed. Her hair is TOO blonde. I really hate it when people keep going blonder and blonder and don’t realize when it has reached the point where it’s unflattering and a little cartoonish.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

    HATE. IT.

I know it’s a de la Renta, but why is bunched-up-tulle a THING?

  • Judy_J

My five year old granddaughter would love this dress.

  • http://twitter.com/nicolahearts nicole seligman

can i get married in this dress? definitely carrie’s version and not the runway one.

  • Super_Red

I love this dress… just not for this venue.

  • marilyn

Her roots are showing.  If she is going to all the trouble of getting this dressed up, she should do a touch up on her hair.  That little strip of dark hair is like a black bra strap sticking out where it’s not supposed to be.  The dress is a good color.  The style is very feminine and young.  I thnk it does not go with the cowgirl hair do.  She would look better if her hair had been up.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/UGFSSAYFPNER5HPV4GGZA3PMMQ Christiane

Courtney Love can wear this dress. The whole vibe is “fairy princess on crack.”

  • saanrio

My first thought was: is this the Billboard awards, or a Fairy Tale Prom?

I like the dress, but that … is a lot of dress.  I kinda want to sneak away and have a giggle at it.

  • MsOlympia

She has gone too far with the extensions…they look obvious and cheap.

  • Sophie Collier

Looks sharp and interesting on the runway.  Looks like Barbie wearing a dress made for Ken on Carrie.  Too much dress, not enough woman.  I think you need long legs to wear this one.

  • TSkot

Girl, that’s not the place for this dress.

  • belfebe

Girl, that is not your dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ali.sharpe.6 Ali Sharpe

I like her hair and makeup, but everything is like 25% too large. The big clutch with the big rhinestones and the big skirt. It all makes her look a little short, you know? A little out of proportion, like when I used to put my Barbie dolls in American Girl Doll dresses.

  • sashaychante

Looks prom or bridal to me.  The model wears it better because of her height.  I’m not sure of Carrie Underwood’s age, but I’m almost thinking this is a little bit too young…or perhaps just too birthday cakey…for her.

  • Louise Bryan

Don’t like mullet skirts.  I’m not sure there is much difference between the runway and the red carpet versions.  It almost looks like the model is holding up the front a little, while Carrie is just standing there.  Don’t like mullet skirts, and this one is way too busy.  Nice bodice, at least from the front.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/JO2ZPMWZR7BENRHIQ7DYGJP2HQ Melanie

My grandma used to make lamps out of old Barbie dolls and prom dresses.  They looked like this.

  • frankystein123

Fabulous, though I would prefer the bottom half to be toned down a little.

  • http://twitter.com/AmberAndronicus Fucking A.

I say send this dress off to Dakota Fanning.

  • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

That is too much dress for you.  Ok maybe it isn’t your fault, the dress has its own gravitational pull causing Carrie to be swallowed, torso first.

  • Srw27

Jesus, how the hell does she sit down in that monstrosity?  And how does she pee??

  • Lauren Bradshaw

I would love this dress on Natalie Portman.  If she was in the mood for rocking it.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BUKL3CV3Y66UWR7BWYJMPSDRR4 Annie

looks like a half eaten cupcake

  • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

Looks like a bridal gown and an ugly bridesmaid dress had an ugly baby. And no one should be allowed to have a clutch that looks like a 3 year old bedazzled it…with closed eyes.

  • Macy Augustus

A truly stunning gown turned into a hot mess!  I loved this on the runway, but letting down the pink tulle in the front seems like big a mistake, and I’m not digging the CMT hair.  She’s a gorgeous woman, but I would really like to see her change things up on the beauty front.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HIZ7S2FRLC52NXARXQ4ERHNOGE Liz

Has this girl ever worn a color?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ENBX3563Q4ZNCVRGSJVFIB7OAA Thom

‘Barbie’ is right: she even slipped in a beadazzled pink satin clutch! I’d like it fine for a debutante or ‘coming out’ ball, but not in public: she looks ridiculous trying to wade through the production assistants.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Oh, dear. The Lavender Cotton Candy Fairy has escaped.

  • Caaro3

I’ll best she feels like an idiot . . .

  • http://twitter.com/teachersharon TeacherSharon

Pretty dress, cute bag, but I hate that white-blond Tammy Wynette-variety country singer hair (although, yes, I do realize she’s a country singer). I think that blond only works on Sharon Stone when she does the super-short-razorish thingy to her hair.

  • Yuval Dinoor

Help! Carrie is drowning in grey shower poofs! Call 911!

I do like the makeup though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1267225625 Susan Wheeler

I kind of love it.  I think it totally works for her.  She should have gone with a little bit of color on her lips, though.

  • guest2visits

    Totally her dress.

  • Susan Crawford

Oscar doesn’t go wrong very often, but when he does, it’s spectacular. The runway version was borderline wrong, but Ms. Underwood’s adapted version was over the line. Just too darn much dress for anyone. The color is smashing, though, and I really like the clutch.

  • lifetime_student

Ummm…Cinderella…those are not glass slippers and I don’t see a Prince.

    • TieDye64

Yep, you beat me to it.

  • boweryboy

Looks like she’s wearing a quinceanera dress.

Does this tulle make my butt look big?  Yes, yes it does.

  • P M

She looks like a greyed-out blur.

  • Jessica O’Connell

…this is a bit much. It’s head turning, but not in a good way. And with the pink, purple, mountains of crinoline, and crappy mascara I feel like she looks like a little girl playing dress up.

  • J MN

What a fun, extravagant dress to wear!  The style fits her, very girly and feminine.  The corset back could have easily been cleaned up with gray ribbons that were trimmed after lacing.  My other quibbles are the ugly bag and the shoes.  I think she should have gone for black sparkly heels (not the ones on the model), which also would have shown up on the gray carpet.  As it is with the dress, shoes & carpet the same color makes it look like she’s melting into the floor.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

    UGH.

There’s some actual visual interest on the model, but Carrie inevitably turns it into Nashville Barbie.  Yawn.
